Lupe Voss is the kind of educator who makes hair colour feel like a craft again—not a guessing game. Based in Redlands, California, she’s spent decades helping colorists (from brand-new to deeply seasoned) build the confidence to understand formulation, not just copy it.

Her origin story is pure salon reality: after opening Julian August in 1988, she realized the education she wanted for her team didn’t really exist—so she started teaching it herself, then studied how different people actually learn. That curiosity became her signature: a “real-life” classroom style built around creative placement, technique, and the chemistry of colour—so you can troubleshoot, personalize, and repeat great results on purpose.

Lupe later launched Hair Color Magic (2008) and went on to serve as Aveda’s North America Artistic Director for Hair Color, before co-founding Color Space™ and leading CS Ed.—with education that spans virtual conversions, in-person network classes, and advanced academy experiences.
