The Beehive!

Reading through many of  the blogs and hair articles from the past week I noticed a common theme, the Beehive. It would seem that we have just passed the 5oth anniversary of the creation and unveiling of this iconic hair style made famous by the likes of Audrey Hepburn, Marge Simpson and more recently Amy Winehouse.

In January of 1960, Margaret Vinci Heldt of Chicago was approached by what is now Modern salon magazine to create a new hairstyle for their February issue. After a lot of brainstorming and some inspiration from a small black velvet hat that she owned that looked like a bump on the head she came up with what is now known as the Beehive.

After more than 50 years Margaret, now 92, is being celebrated once again by the Chicago Cosmetologists Association through a scholarship that will be given out every year in her name.
