Setting hair in the 1950s

By Liam Shea

While searching for interesting hair advertisements I came across this amazing YouTube video of a commercial from the 1950s. In it they advertise Richard Hudnut’s Pin Quick with Silicone, a product for setting your hair in pin curls that is weatherproof and apparently lasts forever! They even say in the add that “weather can’t weaken it” and “water can’t wash it out,” but the best quote from it is “curls last until you cut them off”. Amazing!

The person that posted the video wrote that today you could only find this type of product in the hardware store and the closest thing to it is Thompson’s® WaterSeal®.

You have to watch it to believe it.

Reading about the craft is easier than running the business side of it.
