20 Questions – Jill Karpinski
I have been styling hair for 10 years and I run my own home based hair salon. I love giving people the opportunity to have a full salon experience in a more intimate one on one environment. I plan on continuing my education in the next few months through the Vidal Sassoon Academy. I am looking forward to the experience and can’t wait to apply new and creative ideas on my clients!

Knotty by nature hair lounge
Wedding hair, love it or hate it?
Love wedding hair!!! Such a privilege to be part of one of the most important days of a women’s life!

Seeing the new looks the companies have come up with. Being amongst like people! Inspiration to bring back to the salon!

No where! I would stay here. I love my clients and family. That being said, if I could take them all with me….New York!

Coffee! I need to cut back!!!
Who would your dream client be?
Beiber! I hear he gets his hair cut every 2 weeks! Not a fan of the music. But wouldn’t mind the exposure!!
Best way to get rid of a problem client?
You are not going to knock it out of the park every time! If someone is continually unhappy it’s best to be honest with them and tell them you feel it would be best they seek out a stylist that fits their personality better.
What are your thoughts on the move to less toxic hair products?
I love it! All of our cleaning products have gone natural why not doing the same for the things that we put in contact with our skin on a daily basis?
What are your thoughts on the brazilian blowout?
I am not sure I trust the product. I never push the service on my clients. If they have done their research and feel it is right for them I will perform it. I always caution them before hand.
Favourite eco technique for salons?
Well, I don’t know if it’s a technique, but all my salon towels come from hotels. They would normally be thrown away because of a small flaw! I nab them up. Free!!! Waste not want not!
Most inspiring magazine(s) for style?
Just trashy celebrity magazines! The rich always have fantastic everyday looks! Very classic and people always seem to gravitate towards what is being worn in Hollywood.
Best food joint near your salon?
My Kitchen! Ha! Always yummy snacks on hand!
Thing you love most about your salon?
Being able to style hair and get to know my clients on such a personal level. I can run upstairs and whip us up some Tea and we can chat while they are waiting for their colour to process. I love working from home my salon is so inviting and comfortable.
