More men “reducing grey”

The New York Times published an interesting article this week about the growth of colour treatments for men.

More men are finding themselves back in the job market after years of stable employment and are turning to a little colour to keep them looking youthful and help them feel competitive.  The trend is not to completely cover grey, but to reduce it so that it still looks natural and the client retains some of the wise look their grey hair imparts.

Product makers prefer the terms “reducing grey” and “reshading” to colouring as colour can be a touch subject with men.  Goldwell, Redken, Paul Mitchell and American Crew offer salon-only products that don’t require foils and only take about 5 minutes to apply.

A research report from the firm Multi-sponsors survey found that the number of men colouring their hair in the 50-64 age bracket has grown from 3% in 1999 to 10% in 2010, a jump of over three times.
