How much does salon payment processing cost?
In Canada: 2.5% on an in-person credit card, 0.75% + 7¢ on Interac debit, 2.8% + 30¢ for online payments and invoices, and 3.3% + 15¢ when a card is keyed in by hand. In the United States: 2.6% + 10¢ card-present and 2.9% + 30¢ online or on file. No monthly fee either way.
The Interac line is worth reading twice. On a $120 colour, debit costs you about 97¢. The same sale on a credit card costs $3.00. Every tap that goes through debit instead of credit keeps roughly two thirds of that fee in your till, and across a full book that stops being a rounding error.
Rates are the same whether you take one payment a week or a hundred — there is no volume tier to negotiate and no monthly minimum to hit. What you see here is what comes off the sale.
