Brazilian Hair Smoothing Treatment Have Advisories Issued Again in Both Canada and the U.S.
Last week both the US Department of Labor and Health Canada issued new warnings regarding the formaldehyde levels in Brazilian Hair Smoothing systems. This is added to the already negative view of the Brazilian-style products in both countries and abroad.
In Canada the Health department has added eleven more products to their list of Smoothing systems that exceed the 0.2 per cent allowable limit of formaldehyde in cosmetics.
The new products and their formaldehyde levels are:
Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Solution by Brazilian Blowout — 8.4 per cent.
Brazilian Keratin Treatment by Marcia Teixeira — 1.8 per cent.
Advanced Brazilian Keratin Treatment by Marcia Teixeira —1.7 per cent.
Chocolate Extreme De-Frizzing Treatment by Marcia Teixeira —1.6 per cent.
Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy Treatment by Copomon (Coppola) — 1.8 per cent.
Global Keratin Taming System Strawberry by Global Keratin — 3.0 per cent.
Global Keratin Taming System with Juvexin Strawberry Resistant by Global Keratin — 4.4 per cent.

Pro-Collagen RX Keratin Treatment — 2.8 per cent.
IStraight Keratin (Advanced Keratin Treatment) by IBS Beauty — 2.3 per cent.
Brazilian Thermal Reconstruction by Cadiveu — 7.0 per cent.
Health Canada also warns that “Stylists who use these professional hair smoothing solutions should immediately stop using the affected product. Services using the products mentioned on the advisory should not be offered to clients. Health Canada has not tested all professional hair smoothing solutions. It is the responsibility of manufacturers, importers, distributors and sellers to ensure that their product is in compliance with the Food and Drugs Act and Cosmetic Regulations.”
Lets hope these new warnings motivate the beauty industry to begin acting responsibly and with more interest in the health of the professionals within the industry.

Is KeraGreen Keratin Treatment an approved smoothing treatment in Canada?
I can’t confirm it, but it seems like it is approved in Canada. Organic Color Systems claims that “KeraGreen is the only known keratin smoothing treatment known to be certified as formaldehyde free and is only sold to licensed salon professionals in the United States and Canada by Organic Salon Systems.
