Preserving Production Capability aka Holidays
If you’ve ever read the hugely popular book 7 Habits of Highly effective people by Stephen Covey you might remember his comments on preserving production capacity. Covey cites the old fable of the goose and the golden egg where the farmer kills his gold egg laying bird to get all the eggs at once only to find there are none and his bird is dead. This concept of balancing your productivity level with working to preserve/increase your production capacity is so crucial yet is often forgotten in our workaholic society. You just can’t work the machine so hard and delay maintenance or the engine will burn out.

Simple things that programming should handle
From Telus’ online phone purchase form comes a great example of something that a simple bit of programming would solve. Just using one line of programming to strip any whitespaces before or after the text once the user submits it would remove the need to harass every user with unnecessary extra steps.

Naturally ventilated salon
The Kaze Hair Studio in the Kaze Moóca Building in Sao Paulo Brazil is pretty neat. Its facade is designed as part of a controlled ventilation and passive temperature control system. Great ceiling: Boa hairdresser’s salon
Check out this amazing ceiling at Boa hairdresser’s salon in Zurich Switzerland by Claudia Meier. It does an incredible job of evoking the feeling of hair and apparently moves with the air from the hair dryers. I love that the concept behind the renovation was to give the salon a hair cut.
