Jay Mahmood is a precision-cutting specialist and global educator who helps hairdressers sharpen their craft until it feels calm, intentional, and repeatable. Based around the SF Bay Area through Advanced Academy while teaching internationally, he’s known for turning “I kind of get it” cutting into “I can teach it” cutting, with foundations that hold up on real clients, not just mannequins.

His story starts young: he entered Vidal Sassoon in London as an apprentice at 16, then moved into the Sassoon Academy education team early, building the kind of discipline that makes clean shapes look effortless. That educator’s wiring never left. It’s why his work leans hard into structure, sectioning, control, and the tiny details that decide whether a cut grows out like a dream or turns into a weekly fix.
